There’s something about the act of painting my nails that makes me feel so much more grounded.

Part of it, I think, is the ritual — selecting just the right shade for my mood, carefully filing the nails until they’re smooth and even, just as carefully brushing the polish on each one, waiting until they dry before adding a second coat…

But part of it is also just the simple act of caring for myself.  There is one reason I paint my nails: because I like it.  It’s a purely selfish act.  It’s something I do entirely for me.  And taking that time just for myself is healing.
